What are semi-precious gemstones?
One rock family, many stones
Most gemstones share the same handful of base minerals. Then trace elements, pressure, and chemistry that give each one unique colors, and people give them names.
The famous four, and everyone else
There are four stones that we’ve classified as precious stones: diamonds, emerald, ruby and sapphire. All other stones, even if they’re harder to find, or in rarer colors - are called semi-precious.
Stones that you know
Amethyst, citrine, jade, agate, quartz — familiar names hiding a family resemblance, each one showing up in a range of clarities and colors. However it looks, real stone always tells on itself: that cool, substantial weight in your hand never lies.
